Multiple traffic incidents across Calgary, amid winter road conditions on key commuter routes, slowed Airdrie drivers Thursday morning.

Southbound 14 Street at Stoney Trail NW was affected by a traffic incident. On the northeast side, a collision blocked the left lane on eastbound Airport Trail at 60 Street NE. Further west, a separate incident blocked the right lane on northbound Stoney Trail at McKnight Boulevard NE.

Although a disruption on Shaganappi Trail near Country Hills Boulevard NW was cleared earlier, delays persisted. Southbound Shaganappi was closed between Country Hills and Edgemont Boulevard due to an earlier incident.

Compounding the traffic headaches, road conditions are poor on parts of Calgary’s perimeter highways and feeder routes. Highway 201 (Stoney Trail NE) between Deerfoot Trail and Country Hills Boulevard is partly covered in snow, with snowing conditions, slush, and ice reported on the shoulders. Deerfoot, between Beddington Trail and the junction with Highway 201, is bare and wet, but snow is falling.

North and south of Airdrie, the QEII (Highway 2) between the Calgary city limits and north of Highway 2A is partly covered in ice, with icy wheel paths, slush, shoulder ice, and slippery sections reported.

Drivers are advised to use alternate routes where possible and allow extra travel time.
