The Grande Prairie Police Service (GPPS) has officially rolled out its first four marked patrol vehicles, now actively operating out of the Grande Prairie RCMP detachment. These high-visibility vehicles will be exclusively driven by GPPS officers during their patrol duties, enhancing the presence and accessibility of law enforcement throughout the city.

The addition of these vehicles marks a significant expansion of the GPPS fleet, which already includes vehicles used by the Community Standards Unit, as well as those for training, recruitment, and executive purposes. With these new cruisers, residents can expect to see an increased presence of marked GPPS patrol cars, enhancing safety and community engagement.

“The community can expect to see more of our black and white cruisers proudly patrolling our streets regularly,” says GPPS Chief of Police Dwayne Lakusta. “This is a critical step forward in our efforts to ensure a visible, accessible, and responsive police service. Our goal is to have our entire fleet of marked vehicles operational by the end of the year.”

Currently, 13 GPPS members are stationed at the Grande Prairie RCMP detachment, with 12 officers dedicated to general patrol duties. The increased visibility and patrol capacity of GPPS officers will further strengthen the community’s safety and security.

The RCMP remains police of primary jurisdiction for the City of Grande Prairie.
