Based out of the Toronto area, Canadian Christian singer and songwriter Morrissa Nicole is releasing a new song in time for Easter.
"I think you get into music the way most believers get into music," says Nicole. "Obviously through church. You're in children's choir, VBS, and teen choir. Church is such a powerful playing ground for discovering your talent. If you want to discover what you're good at, you want to be in church. We're going to shine that light."
Starting at four years old, Nicole's mom put her in piano lessons. By the age of seven, Nicole had won a national songwriting competition. In college, she became a classically trained pianist and vocalist.
On top of singing gospel songs, Nicole is a voice-over actor for companies such as CBC, Ford, GMA Canada, as well as a voice actor portraying Lydia Loops (Mom) in PBS Kids' new animation Lyla in the Loop.
"One of the beautiful things about being in an animation show is to use my early childhood education degree in a different way. I get to reach out to the kids through animation, through cartoon, and I think that's what makes me excited about doing this."
Nicole's single, "Thank You for the Cross," was recently released on Mar. 28, 2025, in time for Easter.
"I am a holiday person, but I love Easter," says Nicole. "I believe the ideal for Easter is every day for the heart of a believer. We think of the cross every day, and our lives, and worship, are a constant reflection of that. I love the fact that for the Easter season, the world stops and we can be so much louder than we usually are. This song is about amplifying the message of the cross."
Nicole's latest EP, Ready, was released on Oct. 31, 2024. It includes five tracks, including one featuring Brooke Nicholls.
"[This song] is about challenging people to dive deeper into the experience of the cross, for what it took for us to have salvation. I understand the premise that salvation is free, but more importantly, salvation cost someone His life. It represents sacrifice and ultimate love."
