The father of a 17-year-old track star who was fatally injured by another youth has forgiven the attacker.

The incident happened Wednesday morning at a high school track meet in Dallas.

Frinco police said in a release that an altercation between two students resulted in one student stabbing the other. They say, despite lifesaving measures by bystanders, including his twin brother, police and fire personnel, the youth died.

A 17-year-old was arrested and has been charged with first-degree murder.

"The Frisco Police Department grieves with all those affected by this devastating loss and extends its deepest condolences to the victim’s family, students, and staff who are experiencing unimaginable pain," the department said Wednesday afternoon in a press release. "The department is collaborating with the Frisco Independent School District and will continue to provide any support they need during this incredibly difficult time."

The victim's father, Jeff Metcalf, said his son, Austin, was loved by many.

"I'm not trying to judge, but what kind of parents did this child have? What was he taught? He brought a knife to a track meet, and he murdered my son by stabbing him in the heart. The guy was in the wrong place, and they asked him to move, and he blew up," said Jeff Metcalf to NBC 5. "You know what, I already forgive this person. Already. God takes care of things. God is going to take care of me. God is going to take care of my family."

Metcalf has since set up a GoFundMe to help with funeral costs and the journey moving forward.

"I trust God will bring us through the tough times ahead. I appreciate everyone who has reached out. He passed away in his brother's arms. He wasn't alone, at least. I can't describe the range of emotions I am feeling. I pray god will guide our paths moving forward."

He says they will remember him for the way he impacted others' lives.

" I love you forever, son. It's not goodbye, it's see you later. God will take care of us till we meet again."
