New safety features have been installed in an effort to increase visibility at the intersection of PR201 and PTH306.
Motorists are now warned of the upcoming intersection by red flashing lights that have been mounted atop the stop signs at the east and west sides of the crossing. This, according to Manitoba Transportation and Infrastructure (MTI), is just one of the new safety measures planned following a review of the intersection shortly after a fatal two-vehicle collision in November that claimed the life of a mom and her young daughter.

According to the department, crews will soon be re-cutting existing rumble strips approaching the stop signs. As well, MTI is working with Manitoba Hydro to install illumination at the crossing.
Municipality of Rhineland Council was just one group that asked Province to take urgent action and make the intersection safer after the crash, sending quite an extensive letter to the Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure outlining the case for improvements.
In a news release issued the day after the crash, RCMP said investigation determined a semi heading east on PR201 failed to stop at the intersection and collided with the southbound SUV occupied by the woman and her child.
The 25-year-old male driver of the semi-trailer, Navjeet Singh from Brampton, Ontario, was brought to hospital where he was treated and released.
A Canada-wide warrant remains for his arrest.
