Lynn Bacon passed away early Friday, April 4, 2025, at Cypress Regional Hospital in Swift Current, Saskatchewan. Lynn, our family matriarch, was born October 26, 1947, to Louis Walter and Violet Ingrid Samletzki (nee Johnson) of Melfort, Saskatchewan.
Lynn attended elementary and middle school at East Bend (north of family farm), and high school in Kinistino. Following her graduation from high school, Lynn moved to Prince Albert to attend Business College. While living in Prince Albert, Lynn met the love of her life, Stan (ley) McMichael Bacon. Lynn and Stan married on August 16, 1969, at Bethesda Lutheran Church north of Beatty. Lynn and Stan moved to Swift Current shortly after getting married, where she worked for the Swift Current Health District, and Stan worked for the local TV station.
After a couple of years, they moved to Regina for better job opportunities and welcomed two sons, Todd (1972) and Jared (1975). The family decided to take another leap of faith and move to Nipawin to open a hardware store in the late 70's. Lynn and Stan welcomed their daughter Tricia in 1979. One final move was in Lynn's future, and that was back to Swift Current in 1989, where the family put down some roots and her children finished school.
Lynn's work experience as an Administrator of Municipal Affairs commenced with the Village of Codette, and later with the Cypress Health Region working various positions within payroll and finance. Lynn was socially active as a member of the Kinettes in Nipawin, and in her later years, the Casa Grande quilters, and potters' groups. Lynn had many hobbies and interests, some of which included baking/cooking, pottery, quilting, gardening, golfing, travelling, concert going, skiing, hiking, boating, fishing, puzzles, photography, and of course - happy hour while spending time with friends and family. Lynn had a great love for her latest dog, Annie (at last count x6 dogs graced the family archives), she had a soft spot for cats, and oddly enough loved peanut butter and mayonnaise sandwiches.
Lynn was predeceased by her Father Louis Samletzki, Mother Violet Samletzki; daughter-in-law Rhea Lindsay; and many uncles, aunts, cousins, and close friends. Lynn is survived by her loving husband Stan; son Todd (wife Jody, and their children Gabrielle, Evan, and Genevieve); son Jared (partner Deanne); daughter Tricia (husband Clayton and their son Emryk); brother Jim (partner Trudy); nephews Jason Samletzki and Ryan Samletzki; and many dear family friends.
To those that knew Lynn, she would want you to remember her at the dinners, coffees, girls’ weekend, and happy hours laughing and sharing friendships. A Celebration of Life will be held in the future for all those to come and remember her. Our family would like to thank all the medical professionals who provided care and treatment to comfort Lynn during her illness.
Afterglow
I’d like the memory of me to be a happy one.
I’d like to leave an afterglow of smiles when life is done.
I’d like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways.
Of happy times and laughing times and bright and sunny days.
I’d like the tears of those who grieve, to dry before the sun;
Of happy memories that I leave when life is done.
