A man from the Rural Municipality of Springfield faces numerous charges after being caught in possession of stolen batteries and solar panels.
On Wednesday, Selkirk RCMP received a report of the theft of numerous batteries that are used on large roadway notification signs. The batteries were stolen from a property in the RM of West St. Paul.
As a result of this information and the subsequent ongoing investigation, RCMP officers from the Selkirk GIS (General Investigations Section) unit executed a search warrant on Thursday at a residence along Lincoln Avenue in Winnipeg.
As a result of the search, officers recovered 26 deep-cycle batteries along with 11 commercial solar panels. The stolen items have an estimated value of $25,000. The batteries from this theft were recovered along with others from previously reported incidents.
Police say a 35-year-old man from the RM of Springfield was arrested on scene and later released for a court appearance on May 23rd in Selkirk. He faces charges of possession of property obtained by crime and trafficking in property obtained by crime.
Selkirk RCMP continue to investigate.
