Taking a moment between curling to come together as a group, the annual bonspiel sees the awarding of the groups "Oilman of the Year" award. The award recognizes a local individual who demonstrates community commitment and involvement, while being a leader in their area of expertise.

Brian Reid was the recipient of this year's award. Oilmen's secretary Curtis Sackville was the lead voice in a video showcasing Reid's life story, played at the award presentation and posted online.

Originally from Alberta and moving to the Kindersley area with his family, Reid made roots in town quickly and entered the oil industry as a young man needing an afterschool job. Over the years he became an established oilman, and community figure, one of his most recent volunteer opportunities taking him to the rink as the coach of the Kindersley Kodiaks, where he won coach of the year for the Cross Roads Hockey League in 2023-24.

Reid received great reception online to the news, tons of people chiming in to celebrate the one they call "hahner".

"Not too many guys more deserving of this award than Brian. He was an absolute delight to work with in the field, patient, respectful and appreciative of good work. Congratulations Brian!"

"Congrats Hahner well deserved. Great presentation as well. Well done"

"Well deserved! One of my all-time favourite consultants to work for! Congrats Brian!"
