Grande Prairie's Golden Age Centre is making some big changes including a brand-new name!
After 50 years of hosting engaging activities for the 55+ community in Grande Prairie they will soon be known as "55 North Community Centre".
The Golden Age Centre recently held a new name contest where the community was invited to submit their name suggestions incorporating the phrase '55 North' for a chance to win a wallet filled with various gift cards for local restaurants, stores, and services.
The gift card wallet was split between two winners, Brenda Termeer, and Jennifer Roy-White.
In the coming months, the Golden Age Centre will be making the official transition to their new name 55 North Community Centre.
The Golden Age Centre currently has over 800 members and that number is growing every week! This means the centre is also needing a Bigger Space.
With a $2.3 million project in the works, the centre aims to add 3,200 square feet to better serve its growing 800+ members. Fundraising is ongoing, with hopes to break ground in 2026.
There is also an opportunity for local businesses to sponsor the facility through naming rights of specific areas in the existing building and in the future expansion.
