It's the election that most southeast voters have been waiting for.
The federal election is scheduled for April 28. While local candidates are vying to get your vote, Elections Canada is making sure the process of getting you to the polls is as smooth as it gets.
Who's on the ballot?
Southeast Saskatchewan sits inside the Souris-Moose Mountain riding. This includes major centres like Estevan and Weyburn and their surrounding smaller communities. Candidates had to submit paperwork by Monday, April 7, to ensure their name would appear on the ballot. Since the deadline has now lapsed, the confirmed candidates on the ballot will be:
- Steven Bonk - Conservative Party of Canada
- Aziz Mian - Liberal Party of Canada
- Sheena Muirhead Koop - New Democratic Party
- Remi Rheault - Green Party of Canada
- Lyndon Dayman - Canadian Future Party
- Travis Mitchel Patron - Independent
How to register to vote?
A small subsect of the community will be voting in the federal election for the first time, whether they are new adults or new Canadians. To be eligible to vote, you must:
- be a Canadian citizen
- be at least 18 years old on election day
- prove your identity and address
Most voters will already be automatically registered to vote. If you're not registered to vote in the riding you live in, you have two options to register.
Online: You can use the Elections Canada Online Voter Registration Service. For this process, you'll need an accepted form of identification to register.
In person: You can visit the Elections Canada office in Estevan at 110-1175 Nicholson Road, Estevan, SK. S4A 2S7 and register by April 22 at 6:00 pm. You can also register to vote during advance polls or on Election Day. Make sure you bring your ID with you.
Voter Information Card (VIC)
Voter information cards are making their way to eligible voters all over the southeast. Elections Canada says they will be arriving in your mailbox at the address used to register to vote. If you haven't received your VIC or if you noticed that your information is incorrect, you can update your information online through Elections Canada or by going to the local Elections Canada office. If you moved recently, you need to update your voter registration profile as soon as possible to ensure that you can vote in the election.
A voter information card looks like this:

Advance Polls and Voting by Mail
Most voters will opt to vote during Election Day, but Elections Canada has provided options for people to vote early. Advance polls are available during the Easter long weekend:
- Friday, April 18, 2025
- Saturday, April 19, 2025
- Sunday, April 20, 2025
- Monday, April 21, 2025
Voters can cast their ballot during advance polls at the Wylie Mitchell Hall between 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
You can apply to vote by mail online or by contacting the local Elections Canada office. However, you must be signed up by April 22 at 6:00 p.m. to ensure your ballot makes it to you before election day.
Polling places on Election Day
In Estevan, there is one super poll that will be available to voters on Election Day. That is at the Church of God, located on 1920 Wellock Road. You can vote from 7:30 a.m. until 7:30 p.m. Make sure you have your approved piece of identification with you.
The polls have closed, but I'm still in line to vote. What do I do?
Simple: DON'T LEAVE your place in line.
Elections Canada has clarified that in the event polls close but you're still lined up to vote, you're still eligible to vote. As long as you're indoors at the polling location and you're in line to vote, your ballot will still be counted.
I still need more information, or I need help with something specific. Where should I go?
For specific information pertaining to the Souris-Moose Mountain riding, you can find more information on Elections Canada's website. If you enter your postal code on their homepage, you'll find resources specific to your neighbourhood.
Elections Canada officers are also available to help voters at the Elections Canada office in Estevan. It's located at 110-1175 Nicholson Road, right across from the hospital. Their phone number is (833) 802-7352 and the assistant returning officer is Gwen van de Woestyne.
