Dr. Elizabeth Robinson, a dentist who has served the Strathmore community for decades, is retiring next week.

Robinson began her career in dentistry 38 years ago while she was attending college for genetics after a classmate suggested she enroll in dental school.

"I started in Calgary as an associate for one year, and then we set up our own practice in the city," said Robinson. "I was there for 16 years."

There was a lack of clientele after opening her practice, which led to Robinson pursuing a second job. It was this goal that led her to Strathmore.

"I was working part time on Tuesdays in 1989. I spent almost 10 years as an associate."

A local doctor approached Robinson's sister, also a dentist, about opening a practice in Strathmore. Since her sister couldn't do it, Robinson took up the offer, which led to the creation of Crystal Ridge Dental Centre in December 1999.

"I live out here, and I love the people. I've been so lucky, the people I've met, and all the nice things they're saying about me now that I'm leaving, it's quite overwhelming, but it's been really nice," added Robinson. "I've enjoyed being a part of the community, and I work with great people."

Robinson's retirement party takes place at the dental centre on Wednesday, Apr. 16 and will be attended by friends, family, and the public. The event will also include a free barbeque.

Following her retirement, Robinson said that she sees "a lot of golf" in her future.
