The manager of the new Canadian Gypsum Company (CGC) plant near Carseland is sharing his excitement following a recent recruitment drive.
As the plant gets ready to open for 2026, CGC is looking to hire around 100 full-time positions at the new facility. Manager Duane VanDuuren said he's looking forward to the future.
"We're looking for a wide range of skills and interests. We certainly need individuals who are interested in learning how to make gypsum wallboard. We're looking for individuals who are excited to work in a safe environment."
VanDuuren added that they're not just looking for people with gypsum experience, as they offer training for employees.
"We want to really emphasize that the careers of making gypsum wallboard can be for anybody. Whether that's somebody whose experienced or not, male or female, we are looking for a very diverse workforce."
The plant was first announced in July 2022, with construction starting in May 2024.
"I couldn't be more excited to be a part of this. I've been with CGC for 25 years. I started my career at our plant near Hamilton, and to be a part of this process building a new plant in Western Canada where it's been a need for a long time, it's truly amazing and I'm proud to be a part of that."
The plant is the first of its kind in Western Canada and was chosen due to the need for building materials in the area.
