Now that the snow is gone, Skatemore Girls has resumed weekly meetings at the Strathmore Skatepark.
The group held its first meeting on Thursday, Apr. 10.
"It's so exciting. It feels so good," said founder Becca McDonald. "I definitely missed the community over the winter."
At each gathering the group supplies residents with skateboards, snacks, and safety equipment, alongside a Bluetooth speaker and karaoke.
"I try to bring a hula hoop and craft stuff, so they don't even need to come and skate. They can just hang out."
Although the group aims to meet weekly, McDonald will post upcoming meetings to the Skatemore Girls Facebook page.
"There's some folks that came out from Calgary, too. It feels really good that people know about us and are excited about it."
Skatemore Girls is a free inclusive club that hosts several events throughout the year, working alongside skateboard shops across Alberta.
"They donate skateboards and sweaters to get kids excited about it, said McDonald. "We work with Cousins Skateboarding a lot."
The group intended to have their first meeting back on Apr. 3, but a sudden influx of snow delayed the event.
