The Hussar Agricultural Society is asking for community support to help upgrade its local arena.

Three community members submitted letters to the Growing Home contest, hosted by BAS, highlighting the need to beautify the facility.

The organization is one of three communities competing to win the top prize of $25,000.

According to society staff, the arena plays a major role in the community by hosting local hockey, ringette, and community events.

"We've got some maintenance to do to the building. A few hot water tanks to replace and a few other things inside and outside the building," said Brad Dundas society president.

He added that rising costs are making operations more difficult, including utility bills and a loan taken out for a new ice plant installed a few years ago.

"It's a pretty big hub for our community where everybody shows up to curl and skate," Dundas said.

"Winning the $25,000 prize would provide much-needed funding to make overdue upgrades and maintain the arena, allowing the Hussar Ag Society to continue offering affordable access to this essential facility," the organization said in a statement.

Residents can vote until April 15 here.
