A report from the province indicates the government of Saskatchewan has awarded nearly 90 per cent of all procurements to Saskatchewan companies over the past five years.
SaskBuilds and Procurement Minister David Marit noted that the number even goes up when Saskatchewan companies bid.
"When Saskatchewan companies bid on that procurement that goes up to 95 per cent," said the Wood River MLA.
He added that 99 per cent of procurements went to Canadian companies, with less than one per cent awarded to US companies.
"We track that," Marit said. "We have a procurement management team that actually tracks it. They're not pulled out of the sky. It's phenomeal and probably higher than any other jurisdiction in this country."
The province also noted that in the 2024-25 construction year, over 96 per cent of the value of awarded contracts went to Saskatchewan companies.
They also reported that Saskatchewan's Crown Corporations awarded 75 per cent of procurements to Saskatchewan suppliers.
