A Christian author and dad to 10 children is offering funny and heartwarming insights to raising children in his newest book.
"This is my brand new book called Yes Dear, I'm Watching Them," says author Jason Weening. "It's a joke for many dads who've probably said that exact phrase, as the kids are hammering nails into their fingers, or falling out of trees, or building bike ramps over the garage."
Weening lives in Estevan, SK, with his wife and their 10 children between the ages of one and 19.
"We travelled around for a year and a half around the states and the Dominican Republic. Doing that with a group our size creates sometimes awkward and funny situations."
Weening's new book is filled with stories that talk about the ups and downs of parenting and everything in between. This includes the time Weening forgot to book a hotel, and the family of 10 found a very kind stranger who welcomed them all into his home.
"One of the stories in the book is actually, I've calculated approximately how many hundreds and thousands of spills that occurred during mealtimes at our house. My wife spends the day homeschooling our kids. We have a set of twins in there, some boys and girls. We've got some cows and pigs. We're pretty musical, so there's lots of guitars in our house and people playing piano."
Weening hopes that people who pick up his new book, especially Christian dads, will be encouraged and entertained throughout.
"The book is made up of 40 stories of injury and adventure. At the end of every story, I have a little blurb to encourage dads: put your phone down, go outside, and go jump on the trampoline with your kids. Go for a hike or go play Lego. As dads, we're often distracted with work and emails or even projects. I want to encourage dads to engage in our most important organization. It's not our businesses or ministries, it's our families."
Weening also published a wholesome adventure book for kids between the ages of 8-12 called Riders of the Lost Reptiles: Danger in the Jungle.
