Since its foundation, Swift Current has been at the core of a large farming community, a city many have relied on to provide the essentials needed to keep their operation running smoothly.

Since 1929, Armstrong Implements has been a part of that local fabric, supporting local farmers and helping them build a life, and career, to last generations.

In 1977, the business was purchased from the original owners, Ed and Les Armstrong, by Ed Talaga, who sold the business to his son Bob in 1993. Brandon purchased the business in 2020 after working there for 15 years.

Simply put, “that makes us a third-generation family-owned business,” said Brandon Talaga. One that’s proud to carry on the legacy of putting their customers first.

“As a new generation leading Armstrong Implements, we do so with deep respect for the foundation that was built before us,” he said. “Trust, hard work, and unwavering support for local producers. My father and grandfather instilled me with these values, and those remain at the heart of everything we do.”

Talaga and the team at Armstrong Implements pride themselves on their dedication to the community. Not only has the business been in town for nearly 100 years, it has also remained locally owned the entire time. Brandon explained how important local ownership is to rural communities, and how, as the owner, it’s essential for him to be there for his customers.

“Being the only locally owned [farm equipment] dealership in Swift Current means our roots are right here, and those roots influence every decision we make,” he said. “We’re not answering to head offices, we’re answering to you – our customers, our neighbours, and our friends. We care, first and foremost, about the long-term success of everyone who walks through the door.”

For Talaga, taking care of his customers means providing them equipment proven to last, including Kubota tractors, Stihl tools and equipment, and even Traeger grills and smokers. Every brand, every piece of equipment, is chosen with purpose.

“We align with brands that put people and performance first,” said Talaga. “Our customers know they're investing in equipment they can count on with the team that's here to back it up.”

To handle the tough work on the farm, Talaga trusts Kubota for their reliability, innovation, and value.

“Whether it's a compact tractor for your acreage or a full-size workhorse for the farm, Kubota delivers dependable performance year after year, even in tough Prairie conditions. Plus, with intuitive controls and easy maintenance, we know Kubota makes life that much easier,” he said.

For the smaller jobs around the farm – and even at home here in Swift – Armstrong Implements carries a large selection of Stihl tools.

“They’re a perfect complement on the farm and in town. With blowers to help clean hay tools and combines, chainsaws for cleaning shelter belts and fence lines, trimming around bin yards, or cutting grass, They hold up to the demands of daily life, and help our customers get more done more efficiently with tools that are built to last,” said Talaga.

And when work on the farm is done, they can rely on Traeger grills to serve up something special.

“We’re about supporting the lifestyle that comes with running a farm – hard work, time with family, and making the most of a well-earned meal. Whether it's a harvest crew lunch or a backyard weekend with the family, Traeger brings people together.”

Talaga explained, though, that great equipment is only half the story.

“The other half is having a team that knows it inside out. That’s why our staff stay sharp with ongoing training, certification programs, product training, and hands-on experience.”

Above all, Talaga’s main goal as owner of Armstrong Implements is to make the community a better place.

He said, “When you're buying from a locally owned business, you’re directly supporting your community, supporting local suppliers, and helping the community grow. You're backing people you know. And, you help us give back. Because of your support, we're able to sponsor 4H clubs, community events, minor sports teams, and local causes, and that's something we're truly proud of.”
