Two Golden Hills School Division students have received provincial recognition for their cultural and leadership advocacy.

Caleb Sitting Eagle and Trinity Pretty Youngman were named winners of the Alberta School Board Association's (ASBA) 2025 Honouring Spirit Award: Indigenous Student Award.

"This prestigious award recognizes twelve students annually from across Alberta," the school division said in a release.

Sitting Eagle was selected as the southern Alberta grade 7-9 southern Alberta winner.

"Caleb is a grade eight student at Crowther Memorial Jr. High School who proudly promotes his culture and advocates for Indigenous students," said the division.

"As a passionate advocate for traditional hand games, Caleb organized a school wide tournament."

"Caleb is an active member in the school’s Niitsitapi club and is currently serving as the leader of the schools’ Student Chief and Council."

Pretty Youngman was the recipient of the grade 10-12 southern Alberta award.

"Trinity is a grade 12 student at Strathmore High School who exemplifies the spirit of perseverance, leadership and cultural pride," the division added.

"Recently, Trinity has been awarded a scholarship to Vancouver Film School where she will follow her dream to pursue a career in film and storytelling."

"Trinity also participates in the Blackfoot Youth Confederacy and works with the Calgary Flames on initiatives to revitalize Indigenous language."

The award celebrates First Nations, Metis, and Inuit students who show dedication to their educational journey, while embracing their potential, cultural heritage, and unique gifts.
