Statistics Canada recently released a new batch of data on the housing market, and the figures for Saskatchewan are looking good. The data shows that Saskatchewan's urban housing starts increased by 96.5 per cent in the first three months of 2025 compared to the same period in 2024.
"Saskatchewan is growing at rates not seen for more than a century, and these numbers are demonstrating the effectiveness of our economic growth initiatives," said Trade and Export Development Minister Warren Kaeding. "By creating jobs, encouraging investment and expanding opportunities, we are delivering the programs, services and infrastructure needed for a growing province."
The figures place Saskatchewan in first place among all provinces for growth. For the month of March 2025, urban housing starts in Saskatchewan increased by 160.8 per cent, compared to March 2024. This ranks third among the provinces for year-over-year growth.
The province saw single-family dwellings increase by 90.8 per cent in March, with multiple units increasing by 193.3 per cent, compared to March 2024.
Saskatchewan has seen a strong 2025 when it comes to housing starts. Across the first two months of 2025, Saskatchewan saw urban housing starts rise by 51.5 per cent compared to the first couple of months of 2024. As a whole, Saskatchewan ranked second among all provinces in per cent change during that period.
