A group of delegates from the Town of Kindersley joined over 1,000 attendees at the Saskatchewan Urban Municipalities Association (SUMA) convention held this past week at TCU Place in Saskatoon.
Each year, municipal leaders from across the province come together to discuss issues facing urban communities and hear directly from government representatives on matters that affect them.
For Warren Schafer, Deputy Mayor of Kindersley, it was his first time in attendance.
"This was my first time at SUMA. It was a great event, lots of networking with people in similar positions, and other communities in the same setup, with the same issues and problems we have in Kindersley."
Schafer picked out healthcare as one of the topics that stuck out to him during the week.
"That's always at the forefront of people's minds. With addiction and addiction recovery facilities, healthcare. The doctor shortages that every community seems to be facing. Lots of dialogue on Nurse Practitioners, which I think we have a couple coming on board right now." said Schafer.
Schafer joined us on Thursday after only returning home from Saskatoon late Wednesday. The Deputy Mayor was at SUMA alongside Kindersley Mayor Ken Francis, CAO Audrey Hebert, and councilor Randy Ervine.
