Portage-Lisgar residents can cast advance ballots for the 2025 Canadian Federal Election at the Herman Prior Centre from April 18–21, with election day set for April 28. Kathy Bryce, executive director of the Herman Prior Centre, and Angela Malcolm, a central poll supervisor, share details on accessibility, ID requirements, and the five candidates vying for the riding.

Advance voting dates, location, and accessibility

Advance polls at the Herman Prior Centre auditorium run daily from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. starting Friday, April 18, through Monday, April 21. The fully accessible facility includes five polling stations and registration support for unregistered voters.

“We welcome everybody to come down here to do their advance voting,” Bryce says. “We have a fully accessible facility which anybody can come into and do your voting.”

Malcolm adds, “The facility is quite spacious. There shouldn’t be any issues with capacity.”

What to bring and who’s on the ballot

Voters must present either their voter information card, one piece of government-issued photo ID, or two pieces of non-photo ID with a name and address.

“If you have your voter’s card, bring that in with you. If you don’t have it, you could bring in two pieces of ID or a picture ID alone,” Malcolm says.

Portage-Lisgar voters will choose among five candidates:

  • Janine Gibson (Green Party of Canada)

  • Robert Kreis (Liberal Party of Canada)

  • Kevin Larson (People’s Party of Canada)

  • Branden Leslie (Conservative Party of Canada)

  • Lisa Tessier (New Democratic Party)

Final push for voter participation

Election officials emphasize the importance of turnout. “We hope to see a large turnout,” Malcolm says.

Bryce notes the centre’s dual role as a community hub, balancing its annual Easter lunch serving over 100 people with election preparations.

Advance voting ends April 21, with election day polls open April 28. For details on ID requirements or polling locations, visit Elections Canada.
