The American Idol stage was turned into a place of worship Sunday evening as contestants took part in an Easter Sunday special.
The three-hour-long, never-before-done Songs of Faith episode featured the top 20 contestants singing only faith-inspired songs.
Kolbi Jordan, 26, sang a special version of Amazing Grace that left the crowd and judges in awe.
Jamal Roberts,27, a physical education teacher from Meridian, MS, used his voice to worship, singing "Forever" by Jason Nelson.
"Jamal Roberts didn’t just sing—he worshipped. And we felt it," said American Idol in a post on Facebook.
Breanna Nix, 25, who wowed judges singing Lauren Daigle's "Rolling Stones" and a duet of Brandon Lake's "Gratitude," had the crowd lift their hands in worship as she sang Patty Griffin's "Up to the Mountain."
16-year-old Mttie Pruitt wowed the audience with a gospel-pop version of Lauren Daigle's Rescue.
29-year-old Thunderstorm Artis not only sang, but ministered while he sang Cory Asbury's "Reckless Love." The crowd joined in raising their arms in worship.
Fan favourite and gospel singer extraordinaire, Canaan James Hill, had the crowd on their feet and fans in awe as he once again used his powerful voice to praise God. The 17-year-old sang Le'Andria Johnson's "Better Days."
There were also special guest performances from CeCe Winans, Roman Collins, Brandon Lake and Jelly Roll.
Judges Lionel Ritchie, Carrie Underwood, who is not afraid to show her faith, and Luke Bryan also sang during the show.
Six more contestants will be eliminated this evening as American Idol makes way for their Top 14. They will be judged based on their performance Sunday evening.
