Rob Carnie - The dust has now settled on the BKT World Men's Curling Championship. I heard nothing but good things as a matter of fact, I took a call at the radio station not long ago from a man in Regina who just called to request a song and thanked Moose Jaw and Moose Jaw people for putting on a wonderful show.
He just had a blast around town doing some shopping, having some meals, and really enjoyed the curling as well.
I've heard nothing but good things. Now that the dust has settled, and you've had a chance to debrief, did everything go well?
Maryse Carmichael - It went really well, and just like you have heard from not only fans that came, but our restaurant owners, our shop owners in the city, of course hotels all did really well, and from people visiting from around the world, it was a great event.
I even hear - I'm not a curler - but I even hear that the ice was especially good during this World Curling Championship. So, from talking to Curling Canada, we don't have the final numbers yet. We're talking about an economic impact of about $12 million in the city, and as soon as we have the full figures, we will let you know.
But I know that we had sold out games during the tournament, so a really big thank you to all the staff at the Temple Gardens Center, the volunteers, and the fans that came. The city was really vibrant and what a great 10 days.
Rob - And to say that hosting a world event puts Moose Jaw on the map is an understatement. I mean it put us on the map of Canada and people around the world know about us now.
Maryse – Yes, and they come and visit, they discover our beautiful downtown, and they discover our residents and the community. Tourism Moose Jaw did an excellent job working with all the agencies in the city. So, kudos to them too.
Rob – Good stuff.
