Homemade gifts are best
What makes a better Mother's Day gift than something handmade with creativity and love? That is exactly what the SCRL Altona Branch is offering with their next workshop!
Librarian and workshop organizer Michelle McLaughlin explains what the craft will be: "Right, so I've made a call out to all the dads and grandpas or caregivers who want to come in with their young ones to make a fun bookmark for their mom or grandma."
"It is all up to whatever you want to make. I will have some card stock and I've ordered some fun notions from Amazon so that we can put everything together. I have some feathers, some flowers, some sequins if you want to bling it up, it'll be just whatever you want! I also have the cricket in-house so we can cut some fun letters and just slap some stuff together."
The inspiration
Michelle continued: "I got the idea a number of years ago, my husband asked me what I wanted for Mother's Day and the only thing I could think of was a brand new bookmark. As an avid reader and librarian, I needed a new bookmark, and they often fall apart...so he took my kids who were quite young, into our office, and he created bookmarks with some construction papers and with markers, they wrote sweet messages to mom, they laminated them and I still use them to this day. So I figured why not do that for the people in our community."
