With the federal election taking place on Monday, April 28, there are several candidates running to be the new MP for the Bow River riding.
Current MP Martin Shields announced earlier this that he would not be running for reelection. The Conservative Party of Canada held a vote for their new candidate, with local farmer David Bexte winning the nomination.
The Liberal Party of Canada nominated Bentley Barns, a Brooks-based musician and sports coach.
Louisa Gwin, a construction worker from Chestermere, will be running on behalf of the New Democratic Party.
The Christian Heritage Party put Tom Lipp forward as its nominee, who has lived in the riding for over 20 years. Outside of running for office, he served on community and provincial government boards.
For the United Party of Canada, preacher and pastor Aaron Patton is representing the party. He also serves as a motivational speaker, travelling the country while speaking to thousands of people.
On election day, voters will need to check their voter information card to see where to vote.
The Bow River riding covers communities like Strathmore, Chestermere, Gleichen, Brooks, Taber, Bassano, Rockyford, Standard, Langdon, and more.
