Residents of Kleefeld will see taxes go up this year on the Local Urban District (LUD) portion of their tax bill.

The LUD committee has decided to lower the mill rate for this year from 5 to 4.166 mills. However, committee Chair Dawn Oude Voshaar explains that because reassessment was up 20 per cent this year, taxes are actually going up.

"For the average homeowner, it means $74 approximately extra a year," she says. "Hopefully that's reasonable. I think it's reasonable."

The LUD will be levying $467,537 this year.

Oude Voshaar says there are three main capital projects being planned for 2025. Those projects include:

Park Avenue Resurfacing and Culvert Replacement
Remove existing asphalt, remove and replace damaged or poor graded curb and gutter, remove and replace culverts and riprap, replace curb inlets, regrade and add base material, and apply new asphalt.

Deerpath Pathway
Prepare base along existing granular pathway, install 1.5 m wide asphalt pathway and landscape as required from Deerpath to Aspen Bay.

The third project involves ditching along Friesen Avenue and Deerpath.

Oude Voshaar says the goal is to have the work along Park Avenue completed before the Honey Festival in August. She adds the Deerpath pathway project did not get completed in 2024 and is being carried over to 2025.

Meanwhile, the Kleefeld LUD held its spring public meeting earlier this month. Approximately 30 people attended.
