A full summer of fun is on tap in the Town of Wilkie, and the local museum is a big reason why.
They are busy planning a show and shine for the summer to coincide with Wilkie's "Jump into Summer" festivities on June 14, and then for Canada Day shortly after with a pancake breakfast, live entertainment, and BBQ supper all on the early list of activities.
Before that, however, Public Relations coordinator with the museum, Phil Heilman, shared more on their unique "Hometown Raffle" in a release to the newsroom. It's a great fundraiser that involves Wilkie and the surrounding areas of Landis, Ruthilda, Scott and Kelfield, in addition to anyone else who manages to score a ticket.
“We had some amazing Wilkie-based businesses donate their goods and time for this fundraiser,” said Heilman.
"The Grand Prize of the Hometown Raffle is a beautiful set of his and hers leather bags (purse and messenger bag) and wallets. The leather was handpicked by OA Leather Supply, a large-scale leather distributer making his home in Wilkie. The bags and wallets were handcrafted by the one-woman crew known as Blu J Keepsakes. Second Prize of the raffle is Wilkie, SK apparel donated by the Wilkie Pharmacy, as well as a marble game for the kids." finished Heilman, as the museum board also tossed in some surprises!
Museum staff have been hard at work getting things ready for another year of blasts from the past. Heilman also mentioned the museum board is doing some maintenance around the building, including to the roofing the Blacksmith Shop, and fixing things like walkways and steps.

The operation should be fully back up and running in no time, as in the meantime, Heilman shared how people can keep up with the museum.
"Want to keep up on everything the Museum is doing? We have a Facebook page, just look up the Wilkie & District Museum. Look for posters for all our events as well as ads in your favourite newspapers."
The museum is located at 214 1 St East in Wilkie.
