The Seine River School Division (SRSD) is stepping out of this academic year, and heading into the next, with a little extra cash.

Colin Campbell, superintendent of the SRSD, says they're fortunate to have received about $270,000.

"We're obviously grateful for that money and we are putting it directly back into our schools in the areas of furnishing," he says, adding that could include lockers, desks, chairs, and more.

Campbell says the division will consult with principals to fill orders before the end of the year.

In addition to receiving extra funding, the SRSD has also updated its five-year capital plan with enhanced projections regarding the division's operational aspects.

This is something that is standard for school divisions to submit to the provincial government, Campbell says, and review on a yearly basis.

There are two big pieces of the plan that have been included in the plan, he says.

"Our roofs are getting a little dated and we need to start to address those in some of our communities, so that is a focus," he explains. "Obviously class space—we have a request for some additional portables in some of our communities to make sure we have enough room for our students."

Cost estimates for these projects are not currently available, but the superintendent says the province will evaluate school divisions' requests and then fund according to need.

Campbell says the capital plan also provides an explanation as to the division's needs, not just a list of requirements.
