This weekend will be one to keep an eye on as some unsettled weather is popping up, though there will be a break providing summer-like conditions. The last weekend of April will bring some springtime showers, though when exactly those will hit is still shifting.
Environment Canada Meteorologist Danielle Desjardins talks about the warmth we'll be seeing.
"Pretty warm temperatures this weekend, at or just above normal, especially on Sunday, we're going to break the 20-degree mark. So Sunday will be the warmest day, but leading up into the later part of the weekend, we're seeing temperatures in the mid to high teens, which is just at or above normal for this time of year."
That warmth will develop along with a chance of showers, with the area likely feeling those sometime later into Saturday. Those could even develop into a thunderstorm, but Desjardins says that they're just currently watching how that'll play out.
"We're not quite sure about the northern extent of that system yet. So there could be some showers, thunderstorm activity drifting into Saskatchewan, but it could also stay south of us."
Another burst of rain is hitting on Sunday night, which Desjardins says they're also keeping a close eye on.
"I wouldn't rule out a couple of lightning strikes with that. But again, that's going to possibly put the southeast corner of Saskatchewan, the precipitation looks a little bit more consistent. So [we] could see off and on showers."
Environment Canada's models are showing that the system is moving further south and east, Desjardin recalled. "So [you] could see some periods of rain or a little bit of showery activity on Monday. But insofar as the amounts or just how consistent it is overnight Sunday into Monday, that's still a little bit up in the air as well."
One piece of the weekend that is looking stable is a bit of summer-like weather on Sunday. Sunshine and warm air are expected to last through the daytime.
"It isn't until the evening hours that we're going to see potentially some of that thunderstorm showery activity over the southeast. So it does look like quite a nice day through the afternoon. But then evening time, we're looking at those showers and thunderstorms potentially clipping the southeast corner."
The next week will start out with some of the showers and a bit of cool air on Monday, before popping back up by the middle of the week.
Desjardins says she's keeping an eye out for some potential shower activity next week, but other than that, the end of April should be smooth sailing.
