Fueling Minds Inc., a Calgary-based company, has put in a guilty plea following an E. coli outbreak at several daycares in the city.

The charges stem from an eight-week E. coli outbreak that began in September 2023. According to the court, hundreds of Calgarians got sick, with 38 children being placed in hospital.

A report by Alberta Health Services claimed that almost 450 infections could be traced back to meatloaf prepared by Fueling Minds.

During the outbreak, the company served 250 child-care workers and 1,300 attendees.

Although a joint submission by the city's lawyers and Fueling Minds recommended a $10,000 fine, Justice Mathieu St-Germain has pushed sentencing back to May.

Fueling Minds and directors Faisal Alimohd and Anil Karim are facing charges of serving food to daycares without the required business license.
