The Government of Manitoba is releasing more details on this weekend's COVID-19 cases, including that they are watching for a new variant of concern.
Omicron
Public health says no cases of the B.1.1.529 (omicron) variant of concern have been identified in Manitoba. Ontario reported its first two cases on Sunday.
"The province continues to monitor the situation and work with federal officials in the fight against COVID-19 and its variants," Public Health says in a Monday statement.
Last week, Dr. Brent Roussin, Manitoba's Chief Public Health officer said 98 per cent of recent COVID-19 cases in Manitoba are the Delta variant.
New cases
Since Saturday, there have been 342 new COVID-19 cases.
New cases include:
- 124 cases on Saturday
- 132 cases on Sunday
- 86 cases on Monday
The total number of COVID-19 cases is 67,753.
Manitoba's five-day test rate is 5.1 per cent. Winnipeg's test rate is 2.7 per cent.
New cases by region include:
- 30 cases in Winnipeg health region, nine not fully vaccinated
- 30 Southern Health-Santé Sud health region. 21 not fully vaccinated
- 11 Prairie Mountain Health region, seven not fully vaccinated
- 10 Northern health region, three not fully vaccinated
- five Interlake-Eastern health region, none not fully vaccinated
There are 1,493 active cases and 64,945 recoveries.
Outbreaks
One classroom and one care home are now outbreak sites.
Donwood assisted living in Winnipeg has been moved to critical (Red) level on the Pandemic Response System.
St. Alphonsus School's Grafe 3 class is remote learning. The school has been moved to the Restricted (Orange) level on the Pandemic Response System.
Benito personal care home and Health Sciences Centre's GD4 unit are no longer in an outbreak.
Deaths and hospitalizations
The province says 1,315 people have died, 10 more people than on Friday.
Deaths from Friday to Monday include:
- a female in her 60s from the Winnipeg health region (reported Friday)
- a female in her 60s from the Winnipeg health region (reported Saturday)
- a male in his 60s from the Southern Health-Santé Sud region (reported Saturday)
- a female in her 90s from the Prairie Mountain Health region and linked to the outbreak at Russell Health Centre/Russell personal care home (reported Saturday)
- a female in her 80s from the Winnipeg health region (reported Saturday)
- a female in her 70s from the Southern Health-Santé Sud (reported Saturday)
- a female in her 90s from the Southern Health-Santé Sud and linked to the outbreak at Third Crossing Manor (reported Saturday)
- a female in her 60s from the Northern health region (reported Sunday)
- a female in her 70s from the Southern Health- Santé Sud (reported Sunday)
- a female in her 70s from the Prairie Mountain Health region (reported Sunday)
- a male in his 80s from the Southern Health- Santé Sud (reported Sunday)
Vaccinations
Thompson Regional Community Centre's supersite is closing on Wednesday. Instead, a new pop-up will open at 15 Selkirk Avenue starting on December 7, running on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
There have been 2,162,719 doses administered in Manitoba of first, second,and third doses.
