You’ve probably noticed the little yellow house on the corner of 2nd Northeast and Chaplin; if you’re new in town, or have just wondered what’s in there, this is your sign to check it out! 7th Heaven Hair Design has been there since 1996, offering full-service hairstyling, facial waxing, gel nails, and pedicures. Her clothing selection, though, is one of Swift Current’s secret treasures.
7th Heaven owner, Karen Kramer, started the salon business back in 1986, originally located in the Plaza downtown. In 1996, she made the move to her current location.
“I walked by that little yellow house on the corner, and I just felt like it would be a fabulous location for a hair salon, so that’s where we’ve been ever since,” she said.
Despite the central location, the current 7th Heaven building has a parking lot next to the house that customers are free to use.
In 2004, Kramer took the business one step further, channelling her love for fashion into the unique clothing boutique 7th Heaven is today. After nearly 20 years, though, Kramer realized that her little 900 sq ft house just couldn’t keep up.
“Over time, we just exploded [with clothing],” she laughed.
In 2021, she made the decision to expand into another space, which officially became Cloud Nine Clothing, nestled in the corner of the Plaza between Rittinger’s and Pharmasave.
7th Heaven and Cloud Nine Clothing offer a wide variety of professional clothing, unique statement pieces, and “the greatest selection of purses, shoes, and accessories you’ve ever seen.” Both stores also offer a wide size range, with sizes S-1X available in 7th Heaven, and sizes S-3X in Cloud Nine.
“We try to bring in Canadian products as much as possible,” said Kramer. “A lot of our products come from Italy, and we have one line out of Australia. We take pride in what we sell, we know it’s good quality. And my staff at Cloud Nine, they’re wonderful, and they’re always happy to help our customers.”
Outside of in-store sales, Kramer also attends various trade shows in the area, and this year, she’s hosting a fashion show.
“We do a ton of trade shows,” she said, “Like we just finished the Gun and Hobby Show. We’ll be at the upcoming Ladybug Tradeshow. I’ll go up to Mankota trade shows, too, just to get the name out there.”
Conveniently located across from the Market Square, 7th Heaven also sets up a display in the lot behind the house during Market Square days in the summer for people to check out the selection more easily.
Coming up on May 10th, 7th Heaven and Cloud Nine are hosting a fashion show to raise funds for the Sew Love Foundation, a local not-for-profit organization that provides education to youth in Rwanda and Kenya.
“We have room for 80 people to participate in the fashion show,” said Kramer, “so you need to come and get your tickets early! They’re just $20 a person. Our sponsors have given us some fabulous door prizes, and we’ll have refreshments for the participants, too.”
Fashion show tickets can be purchased at 7th Heaven and Cloud Nine.
The next time you drive by the little yellow house on the corner, don’t be afraid to stop in, say hi, and check out the incredible clothing selection. You can also find them on Facebook at 7th Heaven Hair Design and Cloud Nine Clothing.
