Fraser Tolmie has been re-elected as the member of Parliament for Moose Jaw–Lake Centre–Lanigan in a decisive victory.
This will be Tolmie’s second term as an MP, and he will be joined in Ottawa by 12 other Conservative MPs from Saskatchewan.
Following his re-election, Tolmie spoke with Discover Moose Jaw and thanked the four other candidates he ran against.
“It’s a courageous step. They have a value system and a belief system that’s important to them and they want to be heard,” said Tolmie, acknowledging that campaigning can be challenging at times.
“It’s no easy feat because when you’re on the campaign trail, a lot of people that have differing opinions from you will challenge you and it’s not always in a nice way. We’ve always believed in taking the high road and I want to wish all those people all the best. And again, congratulations for putting their names forward.”
The Conservative Party of Canada made gains over the 2021 federal election, picking up 30 seats for a total of 149, at the time of publishing.
“We’ve gained ground, and we’ve got an upswing,” stated Tolmie.
"I believe pound for pound that our platform is the best platform, and it has the best interests of the people of Canada at heart,” he said.
“We need to keep pushing our platform forward because it provides relief to Canadians and Canadians have been suffering for the last 10 years. I believe their voices are being heard right now with the number of seats that we’ve gained in this last election.”
Tolmie won a decisive victory in the riding, with Liberal Tabitha Mukamusoni placed second, NDP candidate Britt Baumann was third, People’s Party of Canada candidate Chey Craik placed fourth, and Mike Gardiner of the Green Party placed fifth.
“It’s an honour and a privilege to be able to represent the people of Moose Jaw–Lake Centre–Lanigan and I’m very, very proud. We’ve worked hard and fought hard in order to win this seat and not take it for granted,” Tolmie said.
