The country has spoken. 

Canadians voted the federal Liberal Party into a minority government, holding 169 out of the available 343 seats in Parliament. This gives party leader and prime minister Mark Carney a fresh mandate when Parliament resumes in the next few weeks. Here in the Souris-Moose Mountain riding, Conservative candidate Steven Bonk won his seat with 34,793 votes, accounting for 83.7% of the votes. 

Here's how the other candidates performed during the election: 

  • Steven Bonk - Conservative - 34,793 votes (83.7%)
  • Aziz Mian - Liberal - 4,051 votes (9.7%)
  • Sheena Muirhead Koops - New Democratic Party - 1,888 (4.5%)
  • Remi Rheault - Green Party - 371 votes (0.9%)
  • Lyndon Dayman - Canadian Future Party - 304 votes (0.7%)
  • Travis Patron - Independent - 157 votes (0.4%)

The riding has seen a boost in voter turnout compared to the federal election back in 2021. According to the preliminary data from Elections Canada, 41,564 voters cast their ballots out of the 55,375 registered voters in the Souris-Moose Mountain region. The 2021 election only saw 39,625 votes, with 51,198 voters registered at the time.

On the national scale, data shows that 19,226,696 of the 28,525,638 registered voters cast a ballot—not including those who registered on election day—for a total voter turnout of 67.37 per cent. 

The Liberal Party of Canada earned 43.6 per cent or 8,372,850 total votes nationwide, earning the incumbent party seats in 168 electoral districts. 

The Conservative Party of Canda netted 7,953,524 votes according to the preliminary data, or 41.4 per cent, for a total of 144 seats.

The New Democratic Party took a major hit this election, earning seven total seats and 1,205,978 votes and 6.3 per cent of all ballots cast.

The Bloc Québécois Party secured 23 seats with 1,224,083 votes, or 6.4 per cent of ballots cast in this election.
