Barkman Avenue reopens after ruptured gas line fixed

Emergency crews closed one block of Barkman Avenue in Steinbach Wednesday morning, as the result of a gas leak.

Russ Reimer is Assistant Chief for Steinbach Fire Department. He says it appears as though someone was doing work on a house, which resulted in a gas line being ruptured. 

Barkman Avenue between Third Street and Fourth Street was quickly closed to traffic and Reimer says all adjacent homes were evacuated as a precaution.

Manitoba Hydro's gas division was called to the scene and by about 10:45 am, RCMP reported the line had been capped. Barkman Avenue was then reopened to traffic and crews cleared the scene.

Reimer says there were no injuries.
