It's Smile Cookie Week at Tim Hortons locations across Canada, and in Steinbach, proceeds will support a local cause close to the community’s heart.
Jorge Sousa, General Manager of all three Steinbach locations says that they have chosen Recreational Opportunities for Children (ROC) Eastman to receive the funds raised.
“We're supporting ROC Eastman, which is a not-for-profit that works with local families and individuals to get them into programming and sports and events, to get them involved in many, many ways. They are such an amazing group to work with.”
To kick off the week, the ROC team joined in to help decorate the cookies, an event that Sousa says was a success.
“In the first night, we decorated over 1000 cookies in 45 minutes, which I've never seen, and they’ve been able to just bring so much energy to the event.”
ROC Eastman has a connection with the local Tim Hortons team.
“ROC Eastman been a long-time partner with Tim Horton's. Andrew Heidebrecht, who's the owner of the company (in Steinbach), has some history with that group and they are a charity that we've just partnered with probably for many, many years and do such great work in the community that we want to continue to support.”
The ROC team is known for their enthusiasm and Sousa says he experienced it firsthand.
“I was there, just a high energy, high speed, competitive nature just it was just a great evening, they are great people.”
Even with several days left in the campaign, Sousa says the results have already exceeded expectations.
“A lot of this has to do with drive from the community of people coming in want to support this wonderful group, plus all the driving work that ROC Eastman has done themselves going out doing pre-orders and all the hard work of our staff and teams just upselling every cookie they possibly can.”
As the final push for Smile Cookie Week approaches, Sousa encourages the community to keep the momentum going.
“Absolutely help us beat our previous year's sales.”
