While rain showers are always needed at this time of year, with the risk of a thunderstorm in the forecast for this afternoon, Environment Canada has some timely safety reminders as with thunder comes lightning.
A slight cooling is expected today, with the daytime high a few degrees lower than earlier this week, before we get a warm-up in time for the weekend.
Meteorologist Danielle Desjardins offers some advice for staying safe throughout thunderstorm season.
"Stay sky aware. If you do see that the sky is darkening, definitely keep an eye out for adverse weather. Stay up to date with the latest weather information on our WeatherCan app as well. If there are any watches or warnings issued, that will have the latest and greatest information."
She recommends those who are caught outside during a storm should immediately make every effort to go inside to a safe area.
