"On Wednesdays, we wear pink," but this Thursday and Friday at Ste. Anne Collegiate, students will be sporting costumes (including of the pink variety) as they perform Mean Girls.

Lisa Ramsden, a teacher at the high school, says the show will be presented as a musical based on the early 2000s movie—but with a modern twist.

"In addition to everything that Cady Heron has to deal with in the original movie, there's now the power of social media and the influence of social cliques, and finding who you are and being authentic to yourself," Ramsden says.

"I love that the musical addresses the power of social media, and how influential it can be for teenagers."

Melanie Blifernetz is playing Cady Heron in the performance, though she originally auditioned for the role of Regina George.

She says the preparation for the role took up a lot of time, but it's been worth every minute.

"Our cast is awesome. Everyone that's participating in this is just amazing, and such a great group of people and I'm so glad to be a part of this cast," she says.

There are a total of 54 students that are a part of the show, Ramsden says, including two groups of ensemble members, two drama classes, and the leads.

She says a lot of fun has been had behind the scenes.

"There are nine big ensemble dance numbers in this show, and they not only met expectations, they exceeded them every class. They have such spirit and determination, and above all, they support each other and we laugh through our failures," Ramsden says.

"I'm so proud of these students."

Jim Warner, another teacher involved with the production, says there are a total of four shows coming up.

A matinee on Thursday at 11:30 a.m., and on Friday at 12:30 p.m., and evening shows on Thursday and Friday at 7 p.m.

"You can get tickets from Ste. Anne Collegiate at the office. They cost $15," he says.
