Steinbach RCMP stopped a vehicle travelling 97 kilometres per hour down Main Street over the weekend.

According to police, there were eight tickets issued over the weekend under the Highway Traffic Act. As mentioned, one of those was for a speeding vehicle travelling 97 km/h in a 50 km/h zone. The motorist was fined $665. Three of the other tickets were for unnecessary noise from vehicles.

Police say on Friday at 10:19 pm, a 20-year-old male from the Menisino area was stopped as a result of excessive noise. The individual was issued with an immediate roadside prohibition, had his vehicle impounded for 30 days, his license suspended for 90 days, and was issued an administrative penalty of $700. 

And finally, on Friday at 11:13 pm, a motorist was stopped at the corner of Main Street and Reimer Avenue in Steinbach, as a result of driving through a red light. The 34-year-old male from Steinbach was issued with an immediate roadside prohibition, will have his vehicle impounded for 30 days, his license suspended for 90 days, and received an administrative penalty of $700.

Steinbach RCMP received 66 calls for service over the weekend.
