Unity RCMP responded to a variety of calls for service between April 29 and May 5, ranging from theft and trespassing to wellness checks and mental health concerns.
Mounties received two separate theft complaints — one of which remains under investigation, while the other had insufficient evidence to proceed. Officers were also called to address a trespassing complaint. A verbal warning was issued to the individual involved.
RCMP were requested to keep the peace while a person retrieved personal property from a residence and responded to a call under the Mental Health Act, speaking with the individual in question. A wellbeing check was also conducted following a request from a concerned citizen.
Police handled a complaint of fraud that could not proceed due to a lack of evidence and also spoke with an individual about a property-related matter. Two traffic complaints were logged, and CN Police reported a railway crossing malfunction in a rural area near Unity — noted by RCMP for information purposes only.
RCMP are reminding Saskatchewan residents of the province’s Online Crime Reporting (OCR) tool, designed to make reporting non-emergency crimes more convenient and to ease the burden on frontline officers.
The OCR system allows individuals to report the following incidents online, provided the value is under $5,000 and no suspect is known:
-
Fraud and scams (e.g., CRA phone scams, phishing, identity theft),
-
Vandalism and property damage (e.g., graffiti, mailbox or fence damage),
-
Lost or stolen property (e.g., catalytic converters, bicycles, mail),
-
Traffic offences with incomplete vehicle information (e.g., speeding, stunting), and
-
Harassing phone calls or messages via text or social media (excluding threats or extortion).
Incidents involving known suspects or witnesses should still be reported directly to a local RCMP detachment.
Residents with information about crimes in the Unity, Wilkie or Macklin areas are encouraged to call their local RCMP detachment. To remain anonymous, tips can also be submitted to Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), *8477 on SaskTel Mobility, or online at saskcrimestoppers.com. Crime Stoppers offers cash rewards of up to $2,000 for information leading to arrests in serious cases.
