With the summer heat blazing, the Humboldt Broncos began the preparation for the 2025-26 season as they held their spring camp on the weekend at the Elgar Petersen Arena.

Over 130 players attended the camp, travelling as far as British Columbia and the United States as they all try to make an impression on the Broncos coaching and scouting staff.

Head Coach and General Manager Brayden Klimosko was pleased with the weekend and was impressed with the defencemen that were in attendance.

“Overall, I thought there were a lot of plays made from the backend which is nice to see because I think we got to improve on.”

With only a weekend to leave an impression, Klimosko some of the qualities that’s he looking in a player is their competitiveness, their hockey sense and if they’re coachable.

For Klimosko and the rest of the Broncos staff, spring camp is an opportunity to offer a window to the team can expect from players before the fall camp.

“You really get to see what these kids are made of before you get them in the fall time, maybe something they can improve on before you see them in September.”

The Broncos Head Coach added it’s also a chance for players to get a gauge of the team’s staff.

“So, they can have an idea going into the fall time what to expect.”

The Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League draft is coming up on June 10, Klimosko says following the Western Hockey League Prospects Draft that wraps up on Thursday, he and the rest of the Broncos staff will begin the groundwork leading to the SJHL Draft.
