The Kindersley Legion hosted a ceremony on May 8 at the cenotaph in Baker’s Park to mark the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day.

Despite strong winds, community members and students gathered for the event, which began at 10:45 a.m.

The commemoration began at the Kindersley Legion, where members of the RCMP, EMS, fire department, Legion, and local students, along with Mayor Ken Francis, marched down Main Street to Baker’s Park.

The ceremony featured the singing of O Canada, and a welcome by Legion President. followed by remarks from Legion chaplain Scott Holloway, a playing of the Last Post by Colleen Oscar-Swan, and two minutes of silence in remembrance.

Wreaths were laid by representatives from the Town of Kindersley, RCMP, EMS, fire department, Westberry Elementary School and Elizabeth Middle School to honour those who served.

The ceremony concluded with a prayer led by Chaplain Holloway and the singing of God Save the King.
