With extremely heavy hearts, the family of Joel Kouri announce his passing at the Cypress Regional Hospital in Swift Current, Saskatchewan. Joel peacefully passed away with his loving family by his side on January 14, 2025 at the age of 56. He truly fought with all his energy to stay, and continue to be a dad to his children, Colten and Lacie, whom he loved with all his heart. We love him and we will miss him.
Joel is lovingly remembered by his two children, Colten Kouri and Lacie Kouri, as well as his spouse of 38 years, Loretta Bachynski; his sister, Michelle Kouri and numerous nieces and nephews.
Joel was predeceased by his parents Norman and Marie Kouri, and his infant daughter Meagan Kouri.
Joel Norman Kouri was born on May 13, 1968 in Regina, Saskatchewan. He was the eldest of two children raised and loved by Norman and Marie Kouri of Ponteix, Saskatchewan.
Without a doubt, Joel’s most joyous moments in his life were the birth of his two children, Colten and Lacie. He loved his kids, and was very proud to share stories about them with friends and family. Joel enjoyed the outdoors including time spent at his father in-laws farm, Joel’s “Happy Place.” He loved camping and creating memories with his family around a campfire.
As a young adult, Joel spent some time working at the family business, Kouri’s Market in Ponteix. He loved interacting with his customers; from helping them find what they were looking for, packing their groceries, to providing home deliveries. In return, the customers loved Joel. He truly had the biggest heart in helping those around him.
Joel was also proud of his 20 years of service in agriculture. Again, he took genuine pride and pleasure in serving his customers throughout south west Saskatchewan.
A graveside service will be held on July 5, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. for close friends and family at the Ponteix Parish Cemetery. A lunch will follow at the Parish Hall for all those who wish to celebrate and honour Joel’s life.
Forever in our hearts, Joel will be deeply missed.
His family would like to thank all the ICU doctors and medical staff at the Cypress Regional Hospital who worked night and day to save Joel. Also, thank you to those who came to visit Joel, supported us while we sat by his side, and sent messages/phone calls and prayers. Your support has been greatly appreciated!
