Steinbach broke a temperature record on Sunday, and there is a chance the same thing happens Monday.

According to Environment Canada, the mercury peaked at 33.1 degrees Celsius, making it the hottest May 11th ever recorded. The previous record of 30.6 degrees was set in 1977.

Meanwhile, in Emerson, it reached 37.8 degrees Celsius on Sunday, which is 100 degrees Fahrenheit. Meteorologist Scott Kehler with Weatherlogics says that set a new record. May 11th is now the earliest day of the year for a 100-degree Fahrenheit reading in Canada. The previous record was one day later, on May 12th. That record also happened in Manitoba, in 1900, in St. Albans, just southeast of Brandon.

Temperature records also fell at six other locations across Manitoba Sunday, including:

Sprague
New record of 34.4
Old record of 29.4 set in 1977

Altona
New record of 36.7
Old record of 30.6 set in 1977

Deerwood

Old record of 31.7 set in 1977

Melita

Old record of 30.0 set in 1940

Portage la Prairie

Old record of 31.0 set in 1977

The hot weather is forecast to stick around for a few more days. The daytime high is expected to hit 34 degrees in Steinbach on Monday. The record high for May 12 is 32.8 degrees, set in 1958.

According to Environment Canada the above normal temperatures should last through Thursday before a drastic change in the weather ahead of the Victoria Day long weekend. Friday's forecast calls for rain, wind and a high of five degrees.
