A Hanover School Division (HSD) trustee has departed on personal leave.
Danielle Funk is one of four trustees that were elected to represent ward three in the division, which is Steinbach. In a recent board meeting, it was announced she requested to go on personal leave.
The last public board meeting Funk attended was on Feb. 4 of this year.
Board chair, Jeff Friesen, says the board unanimously voted in support of Funk's leave, granting her an unpaid absence until she is able to come back, or until Aug. 31—whichever comes first.
"We went with that for now, we'll see where it goes," he says.
"Giving her this leave allows her to return without any penalty. The Public Schools Act (in Manitoba) says if you miss three public meetings, then you have to be removed (from the board) unless you are given leave," he explains.
"We were happy she requested leave so we could give her that."
