Estevan Fire Rescue is sending out a notice for people to be aware during the warmer season, as fires can get out of control if not properly managed.
Landowners may be performing controlled burns over the next few months to clear land and for other reasons.
Rick Davies, Fire Chief, urges people to keep the province informed so firefighters' resources aren't used unnecessarily.
"Estevan Fire would like to remind landowners in the R.M.s that if performing controlled burns to ensure they call the provincial control burn line at 1-866-404-4911. This is to ensure information about controlled burns are properly documented and to avoid the fire department being called out."
Davies says that response fees will be charged if the fire department is called out to an unreported controlled burn.
As the season progresses, he rmeind people to be cautious while setting fires in the southeast.
"With that said, it is very dry in the Southeast area. Estevan Fire has yet to have any discussions with R.M.s regarding fire bans, but is closely monitoring conditions."
Anyone who does plan to engage in a controlled burn is advised to take extra precautions in order to control the fires. If that fire begins to spread, Davies says that landowners shouldn't hesitate to call the fire department as soon as possible, as fires can spread very quickly.
