As a part of SaskPower's annual maintenance program, crews will be out across in Saskatchewan in 2025 inspecting and treating power poles, and a few West Central areas are on the list.
This vital work ensures the reliability and safety of the province's electrical infrastructure. With over 1.2 million power poles in Saskatchewan, SaskPower's program helps extend the lifespan of each pole from about 30 years to more than 60 years, a smart move that reduces costs and supports dependable service.
Throughout the year, SaskPower crews inspect poles and guy wires, examine hardware atop of poles, look for designs of decay or damage, reinforce or replace parts as needed, test the grounding of transformers, and install wildfire protection where it is needed.
Maintaining a power pole costs less than $50 compared to the $3,000 it costs to replace one. The 2025 program is expected to cost $5.5 million, with roughly 120,000 power poles being inspected.
Residents in Rosetown, Lloydminster, Davidson, Unity and Rosthern can expect to see crews in their communities between May and October.
- Davidson - Transformer grounding tests from May to July
- Rosthern - Transformer grounding tests from May to July
- Unity - Transformer grounding tests from July to October
- Rosetown - Pole inspections in August
- Lloydminster - Pole inspections from August to September

No power interruptions are required to complete the work. SaskPower crews will bring minimal disruption when it comes to staying without the right-of-way and accessing private land.
The maintenance schedule is carefully planned, but crews may work outside the listed dates to accommodate local needs and conditions.
SaskPower's continued investment in infrastructure maintenance ensures that rural and urban communities alike benefit from a safe, efficient, and long-lasting power system.
