Rob Carnie - Summer will soon be here city manager Carmichael, the Phyllis Dewar Outdoor Pool is slated to open when?
Maryse Carmichael - The Phyllis Dewar Outdoor pool will be open June 16, what an exciting time of the year. I see so many kids throughout the summer having such a great time at our outdoor pools, so it (the opening) is coming up June 16.
A reminder for our residents that when we open the outdoor pool, we typically close the indoor pool at the Kinsmen Sportsplex. So, the Sportsplex will be closed for annual maintenance June 16th to July 6.
Rob - And that's just the pool, right?
Maryse - That's correct, just the pool because we do the annual maintenance at this time.
Rob - OK, very good. Yara Center, the turf and the track, will be closed from May 20th till June the 29th for a very good reason.
Maryse - You know when we're talking about infrastructure renewal, yes, people think about cast iron, but it's all our other facilities.
So now it's time to change the turf at the Yara Centre. So that's happening. We will be closed from May 20th to June 29th for the replacement of the turf. It is such a great facility that we have in the city and is well used. Starting later this summer, we'll have a brand-new turf on the at the Yara Centre.
Rob - The 14-year-old turf is being turfed.
Maryse - It's being turfed yes, that's right.
Rob - And we're spending a pretty penny to get that done right?
Maryse - Yes, but thankfully we have our equipment reserves—something that was already started at the city. It’s a great way to plan financially and ensure that our city can renew its infrastructure.
So, every month, like our residents do at home, we put a little bit aside for those big improvements and modifications, so in this case that's what we're doing with the with the turf.
