The City of Grande Prairie has begun the 2025 capital construction season, with traffic signal upgrades already underway and additional projects scheduled to begin in May.

This year’s work includes a variety of road rehabilitation projects such as full-depth reclamation, overlays, milling and paving. Key improvements are planned to take place on routes including 84 Avenue, 96 Street, 102 Street, 102A Avenue, 114 Street, 123 Avenue, Crystal Lake Drive, Pinnacle Boulevard, Royal Oaks Drive, 68 Avenue and 97B Street.

Additional resurfacing and reconstruction work is scheduled at:

  • 132 Avenue (116 Street to 103 Street)
  • 97 Avenue (108 Street to 112 Street)
  • 99 Street (132 Avenue to the north city limit)
  • 139 Avenue (99 Street to 100 Street)
  • 90 Street (64 Avenue to 67 Avenue)

Traffic signal repair and replacement is already underway at select intersections, with improvements designed to support pedestrian safety, traffic flow and long-term infrastructure reliability.

Road rehabilitation is being planned for sections of the old highway bypass, including:

  • 116 Street and 100 Avenue intersection – Mill and pave.
  • 100 Avenue from 124 Street to 132 Street (Range Road 65) – Mill and pave.

These projects are currently in the pre-engineering phase. Final timelines are subject to change as the City collaborates with a consultant to confirm the scope of work. While construction is anticipated in 2025, it is possible that some or all the work may shift to 2026 depending on project requirements.

“Each year, our capital construction program helps build a stronger, safer and more connected Grande Prairie,” said City of Grande Prairie Mayor, Jackie Clayton. “These investments reflect our focus on maintaining the essential infrastructure residents rely on every day while planning responsibly for the future of our growing city.”

Other planned projects include storm drainage work, minor bridge repair, landscaping, tree management and playground enhancements.

Residents are reminded to use caution near construction zones, whether driving, walking or enjoying park spaces. Project schedules are weather dependent and will be shared as they become available.
