Are you ready to ignite your career in Canada's dynamic energy sector? The inaugural Nisku Energy Show, taking place May 14th and 15th at the Silent Ice Sports & Entertainment Center in Nisku, AB, is your launchpad. Hosted by The Leduc Nisku Wetaskiwin Region of Commerce, this two-day event is a vital hub for local innovation and collaboration, bringing together leaders from across the energy landscape to showcase the expertise and advancements shaping Alberta’s future.
A cornerstone of this exciting new show is the Workforce Energy Exchange Job & Career Fair, sponsored by SATO Canada, Canada’s leading safety and training organization for the oil & gas industry. Recognizing the evolving needs of the sector, particularly with experienced professionals retiring, this career fair is strategically focused on connecting eager applicants with the diverse opportunities available.
“They're going to see what's available to them. So maybe they don't want to be a truck driver, but they want to get in the technology side. Maybe they don't want to be on a drilling rig. They want to be in a plant worker, you know, dealing with chemicals or something like that. So it's going to show a lot of options that are available,” explains Darryl Addison, General Manager at SATO Canada.
Many may associate the oil and gas industry solely with the rigs, but the reality is far broader. “You've got, you know, office workers and admin staff and insurance companies that are all dealing within this industry. It's not just going to the oil rigs. You know there could be trucking and construction and reclamation and there's so many things out there and then that's what this workforce exchange is going to show. You know it's Canada's most vibrant industrial hubs all in one space and it's going to show the specialized jobs and career resources that are available to these new job seekers,” Addison elaborates.
SATO Canada understands the importance of a skilled and safety-conscious workforce. With their practical training site in Millet, they offer hands-on experience unlike any other. “We actually have a full drilling rig set up,” says Addison. This unique setup allows individuals to train on a live rig with the invaluable benefit of a “pause button” for crucial learning moments. “So it's like like being on the live rig where they're heading out to work, but we can actually stop for safety’s sake and go over a few things. If we see something that's unsafe or whichever. It's a great way to introduce people into the industry.” This immersive approach ensures new entrants are well-prepared for the realities of the field, emphasizing safety from the outset. “We're basically building the future workforce today,” Addison states.
The Workforce Energy Exchange Job & Career Fair isn't just about dropping off resumes. It’s a vital opportunity for genuine connection. “It's a meet and greet and the handshakes that really drive these personal relationships and that's what we're looking for,” emphasizes Addison. Forget the stacks of paper; this is about making a real impression. “If you find somebody that you've connected with, or maybe an employer that you've connected with, you're definitely going to send them the resume. So there's no sense really printing off 150 resumes and dropping them off.” The focus is on building relationships and showcasing your enthusiasm. “It's making those connections and then moving forward to those connections. That's where you going to see that passion not only with the employers. But also with the job seekers.”
Beyond the career fair, the Nisku Energy Show will feature booths from over 100 companies, both within the arena and in the outdoor space. In today's fast-paced energy landscape, the value of face-to-face interaction cannot be overstated. The conversations, partnerships, and innovative ideas that will emerge from this event are crucial for driving the industry forward. The Nisku Energy Show is dedicated to fostering business growth and industry advancement right where it matters most.
